Smoke is the collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion or pyrolysis, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fires (including stoves, candles, oil lamps, and fireplaces), but may also be used for pest control (cf. fumigation), communication (smoke signals), defense (smoke-screen) or smoking (tobacco, marijuana, crack, etc.).
Smoke damage from any type of fire source is extremely hard to get rid of. Whether the damage was created by: wet or dry smoke, protein, fuel oil soot or any other type of fire, the contaminated molecules penetrate porous materials such as clothing, carpets, drapes, paper and furniture which need to be removed because they cannot be effectively cleaned or masked with deodourizers. The odour can penetrate paint and other surface materials creating expensive clean-up projects that will see most articles being thrown out.
The Odorox® technology effectively neutralizes smoke damage by applying a high concentration of hydroxyls to the effected area for a short period of time to cleave the odour causing molecules. The Odorox® hydroxyl’s are able to penetrate deep into fabrics, paints, hard to reach surfaces including anywhere the air/hydroxyls can penetrate, making it easy to ensure the entire space is cleaned and restored. The odour does not reappear at a later time.
Cleaning with Odorox® hydroxyls saves thousands upon thousands of dollars by not having to replace furniture, books, clothing and walls after a fire. Because the machines do not create any harmful by-products, the process of cleaning the goods can begin right away and goods do not need to be loaded and taken to another location for cleaning. The most devastating affect of smoke damage is the loss of personal property and mementos which now can be saved which creates a far better result for insurance companies & clients.
A great example of the effective use of this product on smoke damage is outlined in our case study at a Costco Store in Miami, FL. The contents of the store were saved along with the ability to re-0pen the store within 2 days and continue the process while shoppers were back spending money. The Odorox® treatment process saved Costco approximately $34,800,000 resulting in Odorox® being approached to become a preferred emergency restoration contractor for the Costco group of stores.
